Being your bestie's maid of honor is, well, an honor! It's also a big responsibility, especially if the bride is turning to you for help and advice throughout the planning process. What if you and your friend don't live near each another? Well, the MOH gig can be downright difficult. However, being a long-distance maid of honor doesn't have to be as hard as it sounds. We asked our experts for a few tips that will make you the greatest MOH ever, no matter how many miles are between you.
Stay in Touch
If the bride-to-be seems like she might need your help while she's planning her wedding, make sure you're not MIA. Check in regularly to see if she needs your input or assistance, whether that means sending an email or hopping on the phone to chat. Does she have a dress fitting or a meeting with the florist? Clear some time in your schedule so you can hop on FaceTime and offer your opinion live. You may be hundreds of miles away, but you can still be a second set of eyes. Thanks, Apple.
Participate as Much as Possible
Flying back and forth to attend dress fittings, bridal showers, and bachelorette bashes can be expensive and time-consuming, so while you may not be able to attend every pre-wedding event, join in as many as you can. And of course, even if you can't make it, do your MOH duties and help with the planning as much as possible.
Team Up With a Local 'Maid (or Mom!)
Since you can't be there in person for everything, get to know the mother of the bride or a bridesmaid who is local. She'll be able to help you out with things like planning the shower (since she'll know all the good restaurants!) and keep you in the loop if the bride needs a second set of hands but you can't make it back.
Don't Forget Your Friendship
While no one wants to admit it, it's easy for friendship to fall by the wayside when you don't see each other all the time. Add everything that has to be done when planning a wedding, and your bride/maid of honor relationship may trump the friendship you had previously, at least for the time being. But every bride needs her BFF! Don't forget to call just to chat or send your usual silly texts between updates on the bachelorette party; she'll love knowing she still has her friend by her side.
