Chance the Rapper is married!
The Grammy-winning rapper wed longtime girlfriend Kristen Corley on Saturday in Newport Beach, California, E! News reports.
One hundred and fifty guests—including Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, and Dave Chapelle—watched the couple exchange vows under a huge rotunda overlooking the ocean at the Pelican Hill Resort. “The bride, Kristen, wore a strapless white dress and Chance wore a white tux with a black bow tie,” a source told E! News. "It was a romantic ceremony, and a string quartet played as they entered. In the middle of the ceremony, their little daughter Kensli ran up and Chance picked her up and held her. It was very sweet and loving to watch.” The decor was all white, featuring white flowers and rose petals sprinkled down the aisle. At the reception, guests sipped champagne and hung out in the photo booth, and a few of the shots are already making the rounds on Instagram.
A week later the groom shared a sneak peak of the couple's wedding video in a post on Instagram captioned, "It’s ok, if you’re coming with me,"—a reference to his song "Juice." The short montage featured a series of clips from his big day, that played over "My Love is Your Love" by Whitney Houston, and gave fans a look at the couple's wedding venue (a stunning, outdoor ceremony covered in white florals), the couple's first dance and plenty of footage of their guests dancing. It also revealed a handful of clips from the reception: shots of the newlyweds dancing with guests, the wedding band performing and the elaborate white and gold decor that was draped across the reception hall. The video's final shots were of the newlywed couple posing together outside their ceremony venue.
Though the celebration took place last weekend, according to Us Weekly the couple has actually been legally married since December 27, 2018, when they had a civil ceremony in their home city of Chicago. They’ve been dating since 2013, but Chance actually knew he was going to marry Corley long before that. Earlier this week, he shared in a series of tweets the story of how they first met 16 years ago. Back in 2003, nine-year-old Chance was attending an office party with his parents, and Corley was there to perform Destiny's Child "Independent Women" with two other girls.
The minute he saw her, Chance says, he knew he was going to marry her some day. “All three heads begin to raise slowly in unison. They look like angels,” he wrote. “Now I’m locking eyes with the prettiest girl [I’ve] ever seen in my almost-a-decade of life on earth... I really shouldn’t even say locked eyes cause really, I was just staring at her.”
His parents tried to get him to join their performance, but he says, “Young me was shy.” He continued, “This wasn’t the time or place. Not just because it wasn’t my party, not because it was their moment to dance, not even cause I was nervous about dancing in front of folks. It’s cause I knew I was gonna marry that girl.”
Looks like he was right!
