Every bride should feel like a princess on their wedding day—and one little boy made that come true for two brides on their big day.
Earlier this month, bride Bea Webster-Mockett shared the sweetest moment from their wedding day in a tweet that has since gone viral. During their November 10 nuptials in Glasgow, Scotland, Bea and her wife Emma were taking wedding pictures at Glasgow Botanic Gardens with their photographer, Kirsty McLachlan, when a little boy at the park shouted "Look at those princesses!”
“My wife and I decided we had to speak to him,” Emma told Huffington Post about the interaction. As they walked over to him, the little boy asked, “Did one of you get married?” to which Emma replied, “We married each other!”
The little boy had the best reaction to their response. “Two princesses then?” he asked, prompting his mom to explain, “Yes, two princesses can marry each other!”
“I nearly cried!” Emma said. “My wife was just over the moon. And we were both delighted that the boy’s mother didn’t hesitate and just stepped right in and normalized same-sex marriage.”
“It was something we will never forget,” she continued. “And it made our day a bit more magical.”
The couple explained that they're hoping their story will show others the importance of normalizing same-sex weddings and relationships.
“I hope that people see that if a child could understand two women marrying each other, then why can’t lawmakers and people who have the power to make a difference see that too?” she said. “And give the LGBTQIA+ community the same rights and treatment as heterosexual people.”
